Flamingoes Set To Fly Over Colombia
After an impressive 2-1 victory over hard-fighting China in
their opening match, the national U-17 Women football team, the Flamingoes will
tonight attempt to consolidate their position in Group D when they take on Columbia in the ongoing
FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Unlike the Nigerians, Columbia lost their opening match 4-0
to Mexico at the other match.
This will give the Flamingoes a psychological edge over the
South Americans who will try and claw their way up from the bottom.
With strikers like Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu and the
ever dependable goalkeeper Onyinyechukwu Okeke, the coach Bala Nikyu lads will go for an outright
victory to ensure they qualify for the next stage of the tournament.
The coach has charged the girls to put the China result
behind them as they aim to better the performances of their predecessors in the
tournament.
“I expect more from my players, particularly, my strikers.
They have to be better organised and more lethal in front of goal,” Nikyu told
reporters in a pre-mtch chat.
The girls themselves have resolved to do more than their
performances against China. Rasheedat Ajibade who was voted man-of-the-match
said she will score more goals and lead Nigeria to the next stage.
“All I have to tell Nigerians is to continue praying for us,
and we won’t let them down and by God’s grace, we will bring the trophy back to
Nigeria,” Ajibade assured.
