Apga Sweeps Anambra LG Pool


All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won all the chairmanship seats in the local government election conducted in Anambra State on Saturday.

Acting Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Sylvester Okonkwo, announced the results at about 3.00 p.m. on Sunday.

The results, however, showed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched 12 councillorship seats in various wards across the state, the United Peoples Party (UPP) and the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) also got one each, leaving the rest of the 304 wards which results have so far been declared to the APGA.

The APGA’s new helmsmen at the local government areas as announced by Okonkwo are: Chukwuma Umeoji (Aguata). He polled 55,810 votes; Hilary Udeano (Anambra East) with 28,747 votes; Simon Onuorah (Anambra West) 12,228 votes; Ikeobi Ejiofor (Anaocha) 14,934 votes; Cosmos Okonkwo (Awka North) 15381 votes; Azubuike Ilo (Awka South) 28,292 votes and Paul Obiorah (Ayamelum) 11,531 votes.

Others are Chukwudi Okeke (Dunukofia) with 17,702 votes; Jude Mbaegbu (Ekwusigo) 17,563 votes; Emmanuel Idemobi (Idemili North) 17,600 votes; and Henry Ezenwa (Idemili South) 37,117 votes.

The rest are Chigozie Awugosi (Ihiala) with 27,441 votes; Emeka Onuorah (Njikoka) with 10,772 votes; Ossy Iyiegbu (Nnewi South) 28,184 votes; Victor Aguluo (Ogbaru) 23,119 votes; Douglas Egbuna (Onitsha North) 9,246 votes; Ann Chukwuneke) 7,070 votes; Fredrick Emekwe (Orumba North) 13,719 votes; John Udeakpe (Orumba South) 8,186 votes; and Charles Okafor (Oyi) 24190 votes.

Wards where the PDP won councillorship seats are: Aguata, Anambra East, Idemili North, Idemili South, Ihiala, Njikoka, Nnewi South, Onitsha North (two), Onitsha South (two), and Orumba South.

PPA and UPP also won one seat each in Onitsha North.

Okonkwo stated that there was no election in Nnewi North Local Government area, and that the commission has concluded arrangement to conduct the election in the area on Saturday.

He, however, did not give reasons for the failure of the commission to conduct election in the council.

The ANSIEC boss believes that Anambra State ought to be commended for transparency in the election, as the state was commended as one of the states in Nigeria that is constituted with several political parties in the state House of Assembly.
