Bishop Chukwuma Warns Northern Elders To Leave Ihejirika Alone

The Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma has cautioned the Northern Elders Forum to desist from dragging for Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika to the International Criminal Court, ICC.

This came at the backdrop of moves by the Northern Elders Forum to drag the former Army Chief to the ICC over his role in the army operations at the North-East Nigeria.

Addressing journalists in Enugu on Monday, Bishop Chukwuma, who is also the South-East Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, said the people of the zone would totally resist any such move.

He lambasted the Northern Elders for keeping quiet the Ndigbo were being slaughtered on daily basis in the area.

“Northern elders should be warned; otherwise, they are calling for another tribal war; I want to tell them that they should drop the idea of charging Ihejirika to ICC”, he said.

The cleric, who described Tukur’s exit as belated, equally called on the chairman PDP’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih to resign.

According to him, “dropping Tukur by the President is too late; things have already scattered; it will not solve the problem; Anenih and all the elders that are above 70 years should go; they should play advisory role; they are analogue and they can’t work with digital.

“Now on Tukur, whatever position they want to give him, I am not interested, but nobody should be made minister as a way of settlement”.

Chukwuma urged the All Progressives Congress, APC, to be wary of defectors, describing the situation as “a conglomeration of trouble makers”.

“Defectors should be warned; it will not augur well for our democracy; their cross-carpeting is for selfish reasons; it will crush if APC is not careful”.

The CAN chairman equally called on the presidency to provide clear explanation to Nigerians on the $10 billion, said to be missing from the NNPC account.

He condemned the perceived on-going political war between Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

“I want to warn the Governor to be very careful because he has been very quarrelsome.

“No single person can decide who will be the next Governor of Enugu State, political positions should not be decided by anybody who thinks he is a king maker; we should thread with caution”, he stressed.
