The crisis brewing in Enugu ahead of the 2015 general election assumed a new dimension Friday as the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Udi local government area of the state announced the indefinite suspension of five officials of the state government for alleged anti-party activity.

Those who were suspended include,  the Secretary to the State Government,  Patrick Okolo, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Chijioke Agu, Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Jude Akubuilo, Special Adviser to the governor on Education, Sunny Agu and Special Adviser on Industrial Park Development, OAU Onyema.

There has been a running battle between Governor Sullivan Chime and the Deputy Senate President,  Ike Ekweremadu,  over the soul of Enugu West senatorial zone in 2015. While the governor who hails from Udi council is said to have declared his interest to contest for the senate seat currently occupied by Ekweremadu, the senator on his part is yet to declare his interest.

Briefing newsmen after a meeting of the 18-man local government executive committee of the party in Udi council, the chairman, Hon. Uche Ogbodo accused the affected officials of holding a clandestine meeting in the local government whose sole intention according to him  "is to destablise the party in the council"
