Group Endorses APGA Boss, Umeh
The group, led by chairman of Njikoka local government,
Emeka Onuorah, in its inaugural meeting in Awka, unanimously resolved to “beg,
invite and plead with Chief Victor Umeh to run for the Senate in 2015”. Convener of the meeting is Umeh’s long time political ally
and traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Austin Ndigwe. The group said: “Having served APGA for 12 years and knowing
that Senator Chris Ngige does not represent us well, we will go and invite
Chief Umeh and we are sure he will agree to come and run for the Senate”.
The group believed that Umeh’s candidature will be a sure
banker for APGA victory in the Senatorial election of 2015. According to it, Umeh has a rich credential in political
service and is easily marketable to Anambra people. Ndigwe said Umeh should be urged to run for the position on
merit, having instituted two governors – Governor Peter Obi, who won his
re-election and was succeeded by another APGA candidate, Willie Obiano, and
Richas Okorocha of Imo State.
Umeh, they said, has also delivered candidates in Senate and
House of Representatives, adding, “If he agrees to take the challenge, “in due
course, people will see the dividends of democracy. Asked the fate of Professor Dora Akunyili, who people had
thought will run for Senate again, Onuorah said he is not aware that any other
member of the Anambra Central Senatorial zone is gunning for the position. He added: “We look for people who will represent us well.
But everybody is free to contest. What is important is that we don’t want
candidates who will appear from Abuja to announce their intention to run”. He said the essence of the group is to form a unity forum and
form a peer review between those in the Central Senatorial district and others
and to unite APGA.
