Jonathan Picks Emefiele As Sanusi’s Successor

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday nominated the Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Godwin Emefiele, as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria. He also picked Adelabu Adebayo Adekola as deputy governor of the apex bank.

The President had on Thursday suspended Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as governor of the CBN over alleged financial recklessness and misconduct. He also directed Sanusi to hand over to the most senior Deputy Governor in the apex bank, Dr. Sarah Alade, who will serve as Acting Governor until the conclusion of ongoing investigations into breaches of enabling laws, due process and mandate of the bank.
